DAMAGED OR NOISY FRONT TRACK BAR
Vehicles built after V.I.N. XXXXXXXXXXX78864 incorporate a new track bar mounting bolt and separate nut at the axle end of the track bar. Vehicles
built before this V.I.N. use a mounting nut that is welded to the track bar-to-axle bracket. If damage to this nut has occurred follow the described
procedure for repair.
Front Track Bar Assembly
PROCEDURE
1.
Raise and support the vehicle at the tires or axle assemblies.
NOTE:
Removal and installation of the track bar-to-axle bracket bolt is difficult if the front axle assembly is suspended.
2.
Disconnect the center link at the right side steering knuckle.
3.
Remove the track bar-to-axle bracket bolt (A) and lower the track bar (B).
4.
Drill out the weld nut located on the axle bracket (C) to 11 mm (27/64-inch diameter).
5.
Using glue or tape, attach a new nut, PN G11506 007, to an open-end wrench. Slip the wrench with nut behind the axle bracket (C) and align
the nut with the bolt hole.
6.
Install the track bar-to-axle bracket and install new bolt, PN 8934 201 927. Thread the bolt into the new nut and tighten to 105 N-m (78 ft.
lbs.) torque.
7.
Attach the center link to the steering knuckle and tighten the nut to 48 N-m (35 ft. lbs.) torque. Install a new cotter pin, PN G103375.
8.
Lower vehicle.
