AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DIAGNOSIS
On some 1986 Comanche models with a 4-cyl.. engine and automatic transmission, early shift points may be the result of a loose pivot bolt in the throttle
valve linkage bellcrank.
Check the pivot bolt and linkage as follows.
PIVOT BOLT AND BELL CRANK SPRING LOCATION
PROCEDURE
1.
Check tightness of the pivot bolt (A) and inspect position of the bellcrank spring (B).
a.
If the bolt is loose, or the bellcrank spring is not positioned as shown in the illustration, proceed to next step.
b.
If the bolt is tight and the spring is properly seated, further diagnosis is required.
2.
Remove the pivot bolt. Apply a bead of Loctite 271, P/N 812 9800 (Canada P/N 320 9443), to the bolt threads and reinstall the bolt.
3.
Align the bellcrank spring if necessary and tighten the pivot bolt to 22 N-m (16 ft.lbs.) torque.
4.
Check and adjust the throttle linkage if necessary. Refer to pages F-36 and F-37 in the M.R. 277 for procedure.
