Intake Manifold: Service and Repair

1.
Disconnect battery ground cable, drain cooling system and remove fuel tank filler cap to relieve pressure. Replace filler cap.
2.
Remove air inlet hose from air cleaner.
3.
Remove power steering pump, belt and brackets from water pump and intake manifold. Position power steering pump aside.
4.
Disconnect fuel supply and return hoses from throttle body.
5.
Disconnect throttle cable from throttle body. When disconnecting cruise control, do not pry on connector. Use finger pressure only.
6.
Disconnect the following:
a.
Electrical connectors from throttle position sensor and idle speed control motor.
b.
Coolant temperature sensor, fuel injector, air temperature and oxygen sensors.
c.
Vacuum hoses from vacuum port on intake manifold, EGR transducer and brake booster.
d.
CCV hose from cylinder head.
7.
Remove molded vacuum harness.
8.
Loosen EGR tube nuts from intake manifold, then remove EGR to exhaust manifold retaining bolts.
9.
Remove bolts 2, 3, 4 and 5 retaining intake manifold to cylinder head Fig. 3. Loosen slightly bolt 1 and nuts 6 and 7, then remove intake manifold.
10.
Reverse procedure to install. Torque bolts in sequence Fig. 3 to the following specifications: bolts 1, 6 and 8 to 30 ft. lbs., bolts 2-5 to 23 ft. lbs.
and bolts 9-10 to 14 ft. lbs.
