Radiator Cooling Fan Motor: Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
These models are equipped with an engine controller which will detect and store a fault code for the cooling fan system. This information may be
accessed by using a DRBII diagnostic tool or the Check Engine Light. Refer to Cooling System/Cooling Fan Motor/Diagrams/Electrical.
1.
Obtain Check Engine Light fault code(s) by turning ignition switch On-Off-On-Off-On within five seconds.
2.
If fault code reads 35, check for short or open condition in radiator fan relay control unit.
3.
Repair as necessary.
4.
DRBII fault code is obtained as follows:
a.
Connect the DRBII to diagnostic connector located near engine controller.
b.
Start engine, then turn air conditioning On and Off, if equipped. Shut engine Off.
c.
Turn ignition switch on, then access Read Fault screen.
d.
Record all fault messages.
e.
If display reads "Radiator Fan Relay", check for short or open condition in radiator fan relay control unit.
5.
Repair as necessary.
