Turn Signal Switch: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. On models with standard steering wheel, remove front cover retaining screws then the cover.
3. On all models, turn key to Lock position. Using suitable puller, remove steering wheel and vibration damper, if equipped.
4. Using lockplate compressor tool No. C-4156, remove steering shaft snap ring.
5. Remove the following: 

a.

Lockplate, cancelling cam and upper bearing preload spring. 

b.

Hazard warning switch screw, actuator arm and turn signal switch attaching screws.

c.

Lower instrument trim cover panel and if equipped with column shift, remove PRNDL cable. 

6. Remove steering column bracket to brake sled retaining nuts and steering column bracket to column bolts.
7. Loosen column brace mounting nut from driver's side kick panel to lower column.
8. Disconnect upper connector from turn signal connector, then remove from column bracket.
9. Tape connector flat-back against wire harness.

Pull plastic wire harness cover up and over weld nuts.

11.

Pull turn signal switch straight up and out of housing.

12.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following: 
a.

When installing switch, ensure wires are laying flat on bottom inside of column.

b.

Use new snap-ring on steering shaft.

c.

If PRNDL cable was removed, install clip with shift indicator on N.
