Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Description and Operation
EVAP Canister (Typical) Operation
PURPOSE
The evaporative canisters used with Jeep models are filled with granules of an activated carbon mixture. Fuel vapors entering the canister are
absorbed by the granules.
OPERATION
The evaporative canister has one inlet connected to the rollover/pressure relief valves of the fuel tank through hose and tubes. The canister is
connected to the air cleaner snorkel.
When the engine is operating, the canister purge function draws fresh air through the top of the evaporative canister. This causes the stored vapors
to be drawn out of the canister into the airstream in the air cleaner snorkel.
