2. Install and tighten the screw (2) that secures the sensor to the inner C-pillar. Tighten the screw to 6.5 Nm (60 in. lbs.).
3. Reconnect the body wire harness connector (3) to the sensor connector receptacle.
4. Reinstall the quarter trim panel onto the inside of the lower C-pillar. See: Body and Frame/Interior Moulding / Trim/Trim Panel/Service and
Repair/Luggage Compartment Trim/Quarter Trim Panel - Installation.
5. Do not reconnect the battery negative cable at this time. The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) verification test procedure should be performed
following service of any SRS component. See: Restraint Systems/Service and Repair.
Side - D-Pillar
SIDE - D-PILLAR
WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before
attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor, or instrument panel component
diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to
discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper
precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.
WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury, never strike or drop the side impact sensor, as it can damage the impact sensor or affect its
calibration. The side impact sensor enables the system to deploy the side curtain supplemental restraints. If an impact sensor is
accidentally dropped during service, the sensor must be scrapped and replaced with a new unit. Failure to observe this warning
could result in accidental, incomplete, or improper front supplemental restraint deployment.
NOTE: A D-pillar side impact sensor is only present on vehicles equipped with an optional third row seat.
NOTE: The front and side impact sensors are interchangeable.
1. Position the side impact sensor (4) onto the inner quarter panel (1) near the D-pillar. Be certain that the anti-rotation pins on the back of the sensor
are engaged in the clearance holes of the inner quarter panel.
2. Install and tighten the screw (3) that secures the sensor to the inner quarter panel. Tighten the screw to 6.5 Nm (60 in. lbs.).
3. Reconnect the body wire harness connector (2) to the sensor connector receptacle.
4. Reinstall the quarter trim panel onto the inner quarter panel near the D-pillar. See: Body and Frame/Interior Moulding / Trim/Trim Panel/Service
