Commander 4WD V8-4.7L Flex Fuel (2009)
NOTE: Illustration shown with left front fender liner removed for clarity.
1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system See: Heating and Air Conditioning/Service and Repair/Refrigerant System Recovery.
3. Partially drain the engine cooling system See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Cooling System/Service and Repair.
4. Raise and support the vehicle.
5. Remove the two screws that secure the underbody line assembly to the underbody, behind the right front wheel.
6. Remove the two nuts (1 and 4) that secure the liquid line extension tube (2) and the suction line extension tube (3) to the underbody refrigerant
lines (6).
7. Disconnect the liquid and suction line extension tubes from the underbody refrigerant lines and remove and discard the O-ring seals.
8. Disconnect the heater hoses from the underbody heater lines (5).

9. Remove the rear body cradle See: Body and Frame/Frame/Cross-Member/Rear Cross-Member/Service and Repair.
10. Remove the muffler and tail pipe as an assembly . See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Exhaust System/Muffler/Service and Repair/Removal
11. Remove the two push-pins that secure the underbody line heat shield to the vehicle underbody, located behind the right rear wheel, and remove the
heat shield.
12. Remove the nut (1) that secures the underbody refrigerant lines (2) to the rear A/C expansion valve (3), located behind the right rear wheel.
13. Disconnect the rear underbody refrigerant lines from the rear A/C expansion valve and remove and discard the O-ring seals.
14. Install plugs in, or tape over, all the opened refrigerant line fittings and rear expansion valve ports.
15. Disconnect the rear heater hoses (6) from the rear heater core tubes (5) that extend through the rear floor panel.
