The front door handle-to-latch rod may be bent, preventing the door latch from being properly adjusted.

On vehicles equipped with the Vehicle Theft Security System, the wiring harness for the security alarm switch may be misrouted and interfering
with the latch operation.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This procedure involves adjusting the fronvrear door latch mechanism, checking the front doors for a bent door handle-to-latch rod and inspecting the
wiring harness for the security alarm switch for proper routing.

Adjust the door latch mechanism as described in the 1993 Grand Cherokee Service Manual, Publication No. 81-370-2147, on page 23-16.

On the front doors, the door handle-to-latch rod is part of the door handle assembly. If the adjustment procedure does not correct the binding
condition, inspect the door handle-to-latch rod for signs of being bent. If the rod is bent, the outside door handle inner mechanism (bellcrank) (Fig.
1), will not return when the push button is released. The door handle assembly will have to be replaced as described in the 1993 Grand Cherokee
Service Manual, Publication No. 81-370-2147, on page 23-17.
