Roof - Wavy Sheet Metal at B Pillar
NO.: 23-56-93
GROUP: Body
DATE: Oct. 8, 1993
SUBJECT:
Wavy Roof Sheet Metal at the B Pillar
MODELS:
1993 (ZJ) Grand Cherokee/Grand Wagoneer
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Waves may be present at the roof panel between the second and third screw from the front of the roof rack. The condition may have been caused when
the adhesive used to attach the roof stiffener bow cures and shrinks, exerting excessive force on the roof.
DIAGNOSIS:
Inspect the area described above for the presence of wavy sheet metal. If this condition is present, perform the repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves removing adhesive from the roof stiffener.
1.
Remove the headliner using the procedures outlined on Pages 23-26 of the 1993 Grand Cherokee Service Manual (Publication No. 81-370-3147).
2.
Using a sharp knife, cut approximately 10" of the adhesive used between the roof stiffener and the roof panel. Start at the drip rail and work
towards the center of the vehicle. Remove the 8" of adhesive fore and aft on the roof side reinforcement (See Illustration in this bulletin). The roof
should pop back into shape when the adhesive is removed. If the roof does not pop back, place a body spoon coated with masking tape on the roof
near the drip rail and gently tap the spoon with a hammer until the roof pops back into shape (Do not tap the roof directly with a hammer). It may
be necessary to apply gentle pressure to the area from inside the vehicle. Polish out any scuff marks that are present.
3.
Install the headliner.
