Steering Column Rattles

(ZJ) Grand Cherokee/Grand Wagoneer

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

A vehicle may exhibit a rattle or knocking noise coming from the steering column while driving. The condition is usually worse while driving at speeds
below 45 mph. on rough or washboard roads.

DIAGNOSIS:

Road test the vehicle to verify that the rattle is coming from the steering column. If the condition is present, perform the repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves replacing the steering column assembly. The steering column is serviced as an assembly and no internal components are available.

Using the procedures outlined in the 1993 Grand Cherokee/Grand Wagoneer Service Manual (Publication No. 81-370-3147), page 19-35, replace the 
steering column and clock spring with the parts listed above.
