Door Locks Cycle When Rear Window Defogger Is Turned Off
MODELS:
1997 (ZJ) Grand Cherokee
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
One or more of the power door locks may cycle when the rear window defogger is turned off. The vehicle must be accelerating at speed over 15 MPH
when the rear window defogger is turned off.
DIAGNOSIS:
Road test the vehicle. Turn the rear window defogger on. With the vehicle operating at speeds over 15 MPH, depress the accelerator and turn the rear
window defogger off while accelerating. If the power door lock cycles, note which door lock activates. If the drivers door activates, replace the drivers
door switch module. If the passenger door activates, replace the passenger door switch module.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves replacing the power window and door lock switch module.
1.
Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
2.
Remove the right front door trim panel.
3.
Remove the switch module from the door trim panel.
4.
Install the new switch module, into the door trim panel.
5.
Install the door trim panel.
6.
Connect the battery negative cable.
7.
If the right hand door switch module was replaced, program the remote keyless entry transmitters.
