Grand Cherokee 2WD L6-4.0L VIN S (1997)
The VIC monitors the Part time (cav 14), Full time (cav 15), 4wd low (cav 17), All time (cav 18), and 2-wheel drive (cav 19) circuits for high or
low state. The message will be displayed if an undefined 4wd input state is detected. The VIC monitors the PCM bus messages and the transfer
case switch inputs to detect an invalid switch state. If the 5th character of the VIN is an "X" only two rear wheel icons will be displayed. If the 5th
character in the VIN is a "Z" the icons will be determined by the 4WD T-case switch inputs. The 4wd inputs will vary with three types of transfer
cases and two possible jumper wire configurations and two engines. The 2-wire red connectors are connected and the black connectors are
disconnected for the 8 cyl. engine (249 T-case). For the 6 cyl. engine (231 and 242 T-case) the black single wire jumper connectors are connected
and the red 2-wire connectors are disconnected. The valid switch position for the 249 T-case and the 231 or 242 T-case are shown on the T-CASE
chart. The trouble code will be active as long as the transfer case is in an unrecognized position. The 4WD icons are Front wheel, Rear wheel, Part
time, Full time, and Low.
Turn Signal on
The message will be displayed if the VIC detects the turn signal is on for 1 mile. The VIC monitors cavity #4 of the VIC 20-way connector to
ensure that the turn signal is on and flashing. If the VIC detects that the turn signal has been on for 1 mile, the message will be displayed until the
vehicle stops or the turn signal is turned off.
Washer Level Low *
The VIC monitors cavity #1 3 of the 20-way connector (the washer fluid level switch sense circuit) for a shorted condition. The message is
displayed and the windshield icon (yellow) turned on it the washer level is low. This message will be displayed it the washer fluid is low or the
circuit is shorted. The messages will be displayed a maximum of 20 times and reset if the condition is corrected.
WASHER SENSOR BAD *
The VIC monitors cavity #13 of the 20-way connector for an open circuit. The message is displayed and the windshield icon (yellow) is turned on
when an open circuit is detected. The messages will be displayed a maximum of 20 times and reset if the condition is corrected.
NOTE: Diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's) are indicated by an asterisk (*) and are addressable via the DRB scan tool.

CHECK BATTERY:
The message will be displayed if the PCM detects a low or high battery voltage and the PCM sends the corresponding CCD bus message to the
VIC. There is no icon for this message and it is displayed for the duration of the problem.
