Low Tire Pressure Indicator: Description and Operation

DESCRIPTION
A Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) indicator is standard equipment on instrument clusters for vehicles in all markets where rear fog lamps are not an
available option. In markets where rear fog lamps are available, the TPM indicator is replaced by the rear fog lamps indicator and a TPM TIRE LOW
PRESSURE textual message that appears in place of the compass/trip computer information within the reconfigurable dot matrix Organic Light
Emitting Diode (OLED) display unit. On vehicles not equipped with the optional TPM system, this indicator or the textual message are electronically
disabled. The indicator is located above the fuel gauge and to the left of the speedometer in the cluster overlay. Illumination of this indicator may also be
accompanied by the display of certain textual messages in the reconfigurable OLED display.
The TPM indicator consists of a stencil-like cutout of an icon that represents a cross-section of a tire with a centered exclamation point in the opaque
layer of the instrument cluster overlay. The dark outer layer of the overlay prevents the indicator from being clearly visible when it is not illuminated. An
amber Light Emitting Diode (LED) behind the cutout in the opaque layer of the overlay causes the indicator to appear in amber through the translucent
outer layer of the overlay when it is illuminated from behind by the LED, which is soldered onto the instrument cluster electronic circuit board.
The TPM indicator is serviced as a unit with the instrument cluster.
