SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Noise which sounds like it is coming from the corners of the instrument panel. The noise may sound like a rattle, knock, or buzz and may seem related to
engine idle or bumpy roads.
DIAGNOSIS:
Open the hood and inspect the hood hinge area on both sides of the vehicle. The rear most support bar on the hood hinge may contact the plastic cowl
screen or excess sealer in the fender/cowl area. Look for any signs of contact, such as paint chafed off the hinge bar or sealer. Also, look for witness
marks of hinge contact on the plastic cowl screen. If contact is indicated, perform the repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves removing excess sealer from the fender/cowl area or removing plastic from the cowl screen to provide adequate clearance for the
hood hinges.
Remove either the excess sealer or a small amount of plastic from the plastic cowl screen with a rotary tool or die grinder to provide the necessary
clearance when the hood hinge is closed. Touch up the painted area as required.
