Seal the plenum-to-left cowl side seam using Kent Clear Sealer as shown. Make sure to seal the vertical seam at the rectangular plenum
drain opening.
B.
Left Cowl Top-To-Fender Top
1.
Park the windshield wipers in a vertical position on the windshield, if not done in Step A.
2.
Remove the cowl cover, if not done in Step A.
3.
Locate the cowl top-to-fender seam (Figure 1).
4.
Apply Kent Clear Sealer to the left cowl top-to-fender seam.
C.
Upper Left Cowl Side Seam Area
1.
Moving inside the vehicle, remove the electrical harness connector on the cowl side stud.
2.
Remove the plastic nut holding the dash panel insulation.
3.
Pull the insulation down off the plenum and dash panel to expose the side-to-dash panel area.
4.
Locate the upper left cowl seam (Fig. 2).
5.
Apply Kent Clear Sealer on the seam as shown.
6.
Check the upper door hinge plug, the courtesy lamp grommet and the door harness hole grommet for proper installation. Apply Kent Clear
Sealer around the plug and both grommets.
7.
Apply clear sealer around wires where they come through the grommets.
NOTE:
THE SEALANTS USED IN THIS PROCEDURE REQUIRE 60 MINUTES TO SETUP BEFORE APPLYING WATER.
WATER TESTING PROCEDURE:
Water test the repaired areas to insure the vehicle has no leakage.
1.
With the aid of a helper, direct water into the cowl area just behind the left hand hood hinge.
CAUTION:
DO NOT ALLOW WATER TO BACK UP IN THE COWL HIGHER THAN THE HEATER/AIR CONDITIONING AIR INTAKE ON THE
RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE COWL. WATER WILL ENTER THE VEHICLE IF IT ENTERS THE AIR INTAKE.
Inspect the following areas inside the vehicle:
a.
Front upper corner formed by the left-hand cowl side, dash panel and the plenum.
b.
The left-hand rear corner of the plenum-to-cowl just behind the steering column reinforcement. A mirror will aid in this inspection.
C.
On the cowl side panel (kick panel area), the upper door hinge hole plug, the interior light grommet and the door wiring harness grommet.
2.
Direct water on the base of the left cowl top-to-fender seam.
a.
Water entry would be at any entry point on the left cowl side (kick panel area).
3.
The dash panel below the plenum from inside the engine compartment and look for leaks in the following areas:
a.
Around the main wiring connector.
b.
At the hood release cable grommet.
c.
At the transmission module mounting studs.
4.
If there is no water entry, install the electrical connector on the cowl side stud, the plastic nut holding the dash panel insulation, the carpet and the
B-pillar lower trim. No further action is necessary.
