Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair
Power Steering Pump Removal and Installation
1. Loosen pump adjusting bolt, then remove drive belt.
2. Remove air cleaner, if necessary.
3. Disconnect hoses from pump, then plug hoses to prevent dirt from entering.
4. Remove front bracket to engine retaining bolts and pump to rear bracket retaining nuts.
5. Remove power steering pump together with front bracket.
6. Reverse procedure to install, then bleed hydraulic system as follows:
a. Fill pump reservoir, then start engine and allow to reach normal operating temperature.
b. Turn wheels to full left lock, stop engine, then add fluid to COLD mark on dipstick.
c. Restart engine, then bleed system by turning wheels side to side until all air bubbles are eliminated. Do not allow wheels to hit stops.
d. Return wheels to straight ahead position, allow engine to idle for approximately three minutes, then stop engine.
e. Check fluid level. Fluid level should be at HOT mark on dipstick. If level is not at HOT, fill reservoir as necessary.
