Snapping or Popping Noise in Rear Suspension
THIS BULLETIN REVISES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 03-02-95 WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES. THE
CHANGE INVOLVES A REVISED LABOR OPERATION NUMBER IS HIGHLIGHTED WITH ASTERISKS.
MODELS:
1993-1995 (ZJ) Grand Cherokee/Grand Wagoneer
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Snapping or popping noise may be present when driving over bumps.
DIAGNOSIS:
Inspect the left rear coil spring for signs of contact to the frame or jounce bumper. if witness marks are present, perform the repair procedure. if any nicks
or groves are worn into the coil spring, the spring will require replacement to prevent future spring failures.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves reseating the rear coil spring and inspecting the isolator.
1.
Raise the vehicle on a hoist and support the rear axle with stands.
2.
Remove the stabilizer bar links from the axle brackets.
3.
Remove the upper shock mounts.
4.
Remove the track bar attaching bolt from the bracket on the frame rail.
5.
Lower the axle enough to allow removal of the left coil spring. Inspect the spring for nicks or grooves on any of the coils. If spring damage is
present, replace the spring.
6.
Remove the upper spring isolator from the spring pocket and inspect the part number located on the top of the isolator. The correct Part Numbers
are as follows:

NOTE:
VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH UP COUNTRY SUSPENSIONS (SALES CODE AWE) CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY THE PRESENCE OF A
PROTECTIVE RUBBER BOOT ON THE SHOCK ABSORBER AND HAVE A NOTICEABLY HIGHER RIDE HEIGHT THAN STANDARD
SUSPENSION VEHICLES.
