Axle Bearing: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Raise and support front of vehicle, then remove wheel and brake caliper.

2. Remove grease cap, cotter pin, nut retainer, adjusting nut and thrust washer from spindle.
3. Remove outer wheel bearing from hub.
4. Remove hub and rotor from spindle.
5. Remove grease seal from hub and rotor, then the inner wheel bearing.

INSTALLATION

1. Apply suitable grease in rotor hub cavity, then pack wheel bearings with grease.
2. Install inner wheel bearing and new grease seal in rotor.
3. Install hub and rotor on spindle.
4. Install outer bearing, thrust washer and spindle nut. Tighten spindle nut to specifications while rotating rotor to seat bearing.
