New Front Output Seal & Oil Slinger for NP241, NP242, and NP249 Transfer Case

DISCUSSION:
Due to a newly designed front output seal, P/N 4762899, the service procedure has changed for the NP241, NP242 and NP249 transfer case. The old
seal will no longer be available through Mopar Parts. The new seal does not have the flange used on prior seals and must be seated below the edge of the
seal bore in the front case. A smaller oil singer is required with this seal, P/N 4797884, and must be replaced at the same time as the seal.

REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE:
1.
Remove the old seal from the front case with a pry tool and discard.
2.
Install the new front output shaft seal with Tools 6888 and C-4171 as follows:
A.
Tap seal into bore with tools C-4171 and 6888 until seal stops against shoulder inside bore (Figure 1).
B.
Check seal depth with dial caliper.
