INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (MIC)

The Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) is divided into 4 sections. The primary gauges, (speedometer and tachometer) and secondary gauges
(fuel level, oil pressure, water temp. and charging voltage), the CCD bus controlled indicator lights and the hardwired indicator lights. The gauge
mechanisms are all the same, the only difference is the face plate or the physical size of the gauge. The ABS light and the left and right turn signals
are hardwired and are not part of any actuator or self test. The PCM sends the signals necessary for the cluster to position the gauges. The cluster
receives these messages directly off the bus and translates them into gauge positions. The BCM sends the status of all indicator lamps, the status
and dimming level to the MIC over the CCD bus when the ignition is in the "run" or "start" positions. The check engine lamp status is sent to the
BCM from the PCM over the CCD bus. The vacuum fluorescent (VF) odometer/trip display works with the key in the "run" or "start" positions.
The BCM stores the mileage information that the odometer displays. If the bus is non-functional, the odometer will display dashes instead of the
mileage numbers. The BCM sends the mileage message and the dimming level message to the VF at "key on". All the other MIC features work
only when the ignition is in the "run" position.

Pushing and holding the trip/reset button for approximately 5 seconds with the ignition turned off will prompt the cluster to display its version
level.

On transition from "run" to "start" a bulb-check feature is performed. This consists of activating all CCD controlled indicator lamps, the ABS
lamp, and all VF display segments for approximately 2-4 seconds.

Memory System Description

MEMORY SYSTEM

An optional memory system is available. The memory features include a 10 position driver's seat, outside mirrors, and radio presets. Up to two
different memory settings are available. Either memory profile can be selected via the door mounted memory select switches or the keyless entry
transmitter. The radio will allow 10 AM and 10 FM presets to be stored for driver 1 and the same for driver 2. If driver 1 enters the vehicle with
the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) or pushes the memory switch 1, then decides to listen to driver 2 radio stations, this can be accomplished by
pushing the memory switch 2 when the vehicle is above 15 MPH. This will select driver 2 radio stations but will leave mirror and seat position
unaffected. If the entire memory system is inoperative, see Memory Seat Test 1A.

Memory Seat

MEMORY SEAT

This optional feature allows up to two different driver seat positions to be set and automatically recalled upon demand. The seat can be
repositioned to position 1 or 2 via the remote keyless entry transmitter or the door mounted memory switches. The set procedures are as follows:
1) Move the seat to desired location. 2) Depress the Memory Set switch. An indicator on the Set switch will illuminate and flash to indicate the
system is in the set mode. 3) Depress either the 1 or 2 switch. The flashing Set indicator will go out to indicate that the set has been achieved. A
CCD message is sent to the Memory Seat Module identifying current seat position as memory set 1 or 2 (via seat position potentiometer values).

To recall established Set Positions: Either unlock the doors via the remote keyless entry transmitter or push a memory switch button. The door
module recognizes the transmitter as being either #1 or #2 and sends a CCD message to the Memory Seat Module asking for the seat to be moved
to the position established for #1 or #2. If during a Memory Recall cycle, the driver attempts to move the seat, the Memory Recall function is
aborted and the seat will move to the desired location. Memory recall will be inhibited when either the driver's seat belt is buckled, or the vehicle
is in motion (15 mph). Also pulling the belt out of the retractor will stop the memory seat.

Heated seats are optionally available. A relay module located under each front seat controls the heat level based on I/P mounted switch. Two
levels of heat are available (low and high).

Radio Systems Description

RADIO SYSTEMS

There are 4 radio systems available in the Grand Cherokee. The sales codes for the radios are:

RAS - AM/FM cassette, two band E.Q., no external amplifier

RAS - AM/FM cassette, two band E.Q., no external amplifier, no CCD diagnostics.
