Body - Squeaking Noise When Using Outside Door Handle

SUBJECT:
Squeak-Like Sound When Outside Door Handle Is Used/Pulled

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves lubricating the plastic clip used to attach the door handle latch rod to the door handle.

MODELS:

2005

(WK/WH)

Grand Cherokee

NOTE:

This bulletin applies to domestic market Grand Cherokee (WK) vehicles built prior to April 11, 2005 (MDH 0411X), and to international market
Grand Cherokee (WH) vehicles built prior to May 15, 2005 (MDH 0515XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The customer may experience a squeak-like sound coming from the outside door handle.

The sound will occur as the outside door handle is being used (pulled).

This condition may be caused by a plastic clip used to attach the latch rod to the door handle.

DIAGNOSIS:

If the customer experiences the above condition, perform the Repair Procedure to the specific door that exhibits the condition.

PARTS REQUIRED:

NOTE:

Use of Lubriplate grease is recommended. Other spray lubricants will wash off or dissipate over time.

NOTE:

The plastic retainers used to attach the door trim panel to the inner door panel must be replaced each time the door trim panel is removed.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

Perform This Procedure For A Front Door With The Condition:

1.

Raise the window to the full up position and temporarily tape the glass in place.

2.

Remove the door trim panel.

3.

Remove the speaker and water shield. While the water shield is temporarily removed, the adhesive seal around the perimeter of the water shield
must remain clean and not become contaminated.

4.

Loosen the window regulator glass clamp bolts.
