REPAIR PROCEDURE:
WARNING:
To avoid personal injury or death, on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the supplemental restraint system before attempting any steering
wheel, steering column, airbag, occupant classification system, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor, or instrument panel component diagnosis or
service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before
performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the supplemental restraint system. Failure to take the proper
precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.
CAUTION:
Before starting this procedure, be certain to turn the steering wheel until the front wheels are in the straight-ahead position. In this position the
Steering Control Module (SCM) clockspring is centered. When the SCM is removed temporarily install a temporary locking pin in the SCM
locking pin hole to prevent the SCM clockspring from rotating. The clockspring centering procedure must be performed if the SCM
clockspring is not temporarily locked in place.
Replace the turn signal cancel cam/ring located in the center of the SCM by following the detailed Turn Signal Cancel Cam removal and
installation procedures available on TechCONNECT ("SERVICE INFO" tab /8 - ELECTRICAL / LAMPS LIGHTING - EXTERIOR / TURN
SIGNAL CANCEL CAM / REMOVAL or INSTALLATION).
In addition, reference can be made to the Steering Column Module service procedures on TechCONNECT ("SERVICE INFO" tab /8 -
ELECTRICAL / ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES / STEERING COLUMN CONTROL MODULE / REMOVAL or INSTALLATION /
STEERING CONTROL MODULE).
