Whine-Like Sound Due To Power Steering Pressure Hose Grounding
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves inspecting the power steering pressure hose and adjusting the hose to prevent grounding to the vehicle frame rail.

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 5.7L engine (sales code EZB) and built prior to November 09, 2004 (MDH 1104XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience a power steering pump whine-like sound that may be louder than normal. This condition may occur more frequently when
the customer is performing a parking lot maneuver.
DIAGNOSIS:
Inspect the power steering pressure hose between the power steering pump and the hydraulic engine cooling (HEC) module. Verify that the power
steering pressure hose is positioned at least 25 mm (1 in.) from either the left frame rail or the electronic limited slip differential (ELSD)
harness/connector. If the power steering pressure hose is closer than 25 mm (1 in.) to the frame rail or harness perform the Repair Procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1.
Loosen the power steering pressure hose 20 mm flare nut on the driver side of the power steering pump only enough to allow the pressure hose to
rotate inside the flare nut.
2.
Rotate the pressure hose so that the hose is at least 25 mm (1 in.) from either the left frame rail or the ELSD harness/connector.
3.
Tighten the power steering hose flare nut to 47.5 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
4.
Verify proper hose to body/harness clearance.
