Poor AC/Heater Performance

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO GRAND CHEROKEE MODELS BUILT PRIOR TO MDH 05 15 01.

MODELS:
1993 (ZJ) Grand Cherokee

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Some vehicles may exhibit low heater/air conditioning output on the driver's side floor outlet position when the heater/air conditioning is in the FLOOR
or BI-LEVEL mode. This condition may be the result of the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) diagnostic connector being mislocated under the carpet. If
the diagnostic connector is mislocated, it pushes the carpet away from the console out over the heater/air-conditioning outlet partially blocking the air
flow.

DIAGNOSIS:

Visually inspect the driver's side heater/air conditioning floor outlet to see if the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) diagnostic connector (Fig.1),
located behind the carpet as shown below, is pushing the carpet out over the outlet. If the carpet is partially blocking the outlet, perform the repair
procedure below.

If the carpet is not interfering with the heater/air conditioning air flow, refer to the 1992 Grand Cherokee Service Manual, Publication No.
81-370-2147, for diagnostic and repair procedures.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This repair procedure involves moving the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) diagnostic connector and modifying the carpet at the heater/air-conditioning
floor duct.

Pull the carpeting away from the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) diagnostic connector (See Fig.1, page 1).

Locate the black or blue six-way diagnostic connector clipped to the instrument panel brace with a gray plastic fastener.
