Wheel Speed Sensor: Service and Repair
Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement
Front
1.
Turn ignition to Off.
2.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
3.
Raise and support vehicle and remove tire and wheel assemblies.
4.
Remove bolt attaching front sensor to steering knuckle.
5.
Disengage sensor wire from brackets on steering knuckle and frame.
6.
Unseat grommet that secures sensor wire in fender panel.
7.
Disconnect sensor wire connector at harness plug in engine compartment.
8.
Remove sensor and wires. Reverse procedure to install using Mopar Lock N' Seal or Loctite 242 on sensor attaching bolt.
Rear
1.
Turn ignition to Off.
2.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
3.
Raise and fold rear seat forward. Move carpeting aside to gain access to rear sensor connectors.
4.
Disconnect rear sensor wires at harness connectors and push sensor wires and grommets through floorpan.
5.
Raise and support vehicle and remove tire and wheel assemblies.
6.
Remove brake drum.
7.
Disengage sensor wire from axle, chassis brackets and brake line retainers.
8.
Unseat sensor grommet from brake support plate and remove bolt attaching sensor to support plate.
9.
Remove sensor and wire through opening in support plate.
10.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. If original sensor is reused, remove any remaining pieces of cardboard from the spacer and set air gap to 0.043 inch with a brass feeler gauge.
b. If new sensor is used, push cardboard spacer on sensor face against tone ring and tighten bolts to specifications.
