Malfunction Indicator Lamp: Testing and Inspection

    If all these are inoperative check for an open in IGN line to cluster connector terminal C12. If C12 has battery voltage continue with diagnosis.

1.

Check upshift indicator as follows:
a. Turn ignition switch to RUN position, ground instrument cluster connector pin C8, lamp should light. If not replace bulb.
b. If satisfactory, turn key to OFF position, check for continuity between connector pin C8 and pin 54 of PCM. If satisfactory replace PCM, if not

repair open.

2.

Check Brake Indicator as follows:
a. Jumper cluster connector terminal C4 to ground, lamp should light. If bulb satisfactory, check for open circuit between C5 and PCM pin 32. If

satisfactory replace PCM.

3.

Check anti-lock indicator as follows:
a. Turn ignition switch to RUN position, jumper instrument cluster connector terminal C3 to ground, lamp should light.
b. If satisfactory check for continuity between C3 and pin 53 of ABS module.

4.

Check engine indicator as follows:
a. Turn ignition switch to RUN position.
b. Jumper cluster connector terminal C5 to ground, lamp should light. If bulb is satisfactory, check for open circuit between C5 and PCM module

pin 32. If satisfactory, replace PCM.
