Throttle Body: Description and Operation
OPERATION
Filtered air from the air cleaner assembly enters the intake manifold through the throttle body. Fuel does not enter the intake manifold through the
throttle body (air only). Fuel is sprayed into the manifold by the fuel injectors. The throttle body is mounted on the intake manifold. It contains an
air bypass passage that is used to supply air for idle conditions. It also contains a throttle valve for above idle conditions.
The throttle position sensor (TPS) and the Idle Air Control (IAC) motor are attached to the throttle body. The accelerator cable is connected to the
throttle arm to control throttle blade position.
