Control Module: Service and Repair
Transmission Control Module
The TCM is located under the instrument panel on the drivers side of the vehicle. The module and harness connector are accessible from under the
instrument panel. The module has integral mounting studs for attachment to the dash panel. A retaining plate and two locknuts secure the module to the
dash. Although the module is inside the vehicle, the retaining plate and locknuts are on the engine compartment side of the dash panel.
1. Turn the ignition "OFF".
2. In the engine compartment, remove the module locknuts and module retaining plate.
3. Inside the vehicle, reach up under the instrument panel and slide the module out of the dash.
4. Work the module downward until the module harness connector is accessible.
5. Disconnect the connector from the module and remove the module from the vehicle.
6. Installation is reverse of removal taking care not to bend the pins inside the connector and tightening the locknuts to 14-16Nm (129-144 in. lbs.).
NOTE: Use a scan tool to diagnose Transmission Control Module (TCM) function whenever a fault is suspected. Replace the TCM only when it is
actually faulty.
