Grand Cherokee 4WD L6-242 4.0L VIN S MFI (1993)
Front Steering Knuckle: Service and Repair
1. Disarm airbag system as outlined under"Airbag System Disarming."
2. Remove axle shaft as outlined in "Front Wheel Drive Section."
3. Remove ABS sensor wire and bracket from knuckle if equipped.
4. Remove caliper anchor plate from knuckle, then the knuckle to ball joint cotter pins and retaining nuts.
5. Strike steering knuckle with a suitable mallet and remove from vehicle.
6. On 1988-90 models, a split ring seat is located in the bottom end of steering knuckle. Before installing knuckle, set split ring seat to a depth of
0.206 inch, using tool J-23447 or equivalent. Measure depth to top of ring seat as shown.
7. On all models, reverse procedure to install. Tighten steering knuckle and anchor plate retaining nuts and bolts to specifications.
8. Rearm airbag system as outlined under "Airbag System Disarming."
