Rear Door Hinge: Service and Repair

HINGE 

REMOVAL 

NOTE:  The hinges may be removed and replaced one at a time to make the door fit adjustment easier.

1. Open front door and rear door.

2. Using a grease pencil or equivalent, mark hinges for installation (Fig. 5).
3. Support rear door with suitable lifting device.
4. If replacing both hinges at the same time, disconnect rear door harness connector (Fig. 2).
5. If replacing both hinges at the same time, remove the bolts and disconnect the door check from the b-pillar.
6. Remove the lower b-pillar trim.

NOTE:  The epoxy coated washers should not be removed from the hinges. If the washers are removed the door may have to be re-adjusted.

7. Remove nuts holding door to hinge and remove the door.
8. Remove the two outside bolts and the one inside bolt holding hinge to b-pillar.

INSTALLATION 

NOTE:  Use 3M(R) Fast and Firm or equivalent on the hinge to body mating surface as a sealant.

1. Install hinge on b-pillar and align reference marks (Fig. 5).
2. Install bolts holding hinge to b-pillar and tighten to 28 N.m (21 ft. lbs.).
3. Install door on hinge and align reference marks.
4. Install nuts, the epoxy washers if necessary, and tighten to 31 N.m (23 ft. lbs.).
5. Check door for fit and ease of operation. Adjust as necessary.
6. Install the lower b-pillar trim.
