Mopar Front Air Deflector (Bug Guard) May Induce Air Turbulence Or Whistle
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves the replacement of the original Mopar Front Air Deflector (Bug Guard) with a revised deflector.
MODELS:
2002 (KJ) Liberty / Cherokee
NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES THAT HAVE A MOPAR ACCESSORY FRONT AIR DEFLECTOR, P/N 82206000.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
With Mopar Front Air Deflector / Bug Guard (p/n 82206000) installed on the vehicle, the customer may experience one or more of the following
conditions:
1.
A wind whistle-like sound.
2.
Windshield wiper blade vibration (flutter).
3.
Exterior side view mirror(s) vibration.
4.
A tapping-like sound in the area of the instrument panel due to the windshield wiper vibration.
5.
Windshield washer spray pattern that is less than desireable.
The above conditions may be due to air turbulence generated by the older style Front Air Deflector.
DIAGNOSIS:
1.
Verify the presence of the above condition(s) by road testing the vehicle with the p/n 82206000 Front Air Deflector installed.
2.
Remove the p/n 82206000 Front Air Deflector from the vehicle. Road test the vehicle again to determine if the condition(s) is present.
3.
If the above condition(s) is no longer present perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1.
If not already performed, remove the old style Front Air Deflector and mounting hardware from the vehicle.
2.
Remove any weatherstriping that may have been installed, across the top of the grill, to prevent wind whistle.
3.
Install the new Front Air Deflector, p/n 82207938, using the instructions supplied with the part.
4.
Dress/cover any holes that may be left from the previous deflector mounting hardware with a small amount of RTV.
