REPAIR PROCEDURE

1.

Remove the distributor vacuum delay valve (A) and replace it with a straight vacuum connector (P/N J3220180). Figure 1.

2.

Remove the original EGR valve and gasket (B) and replace it with the new EGR valve (P/N J3239372) and gasket (P/N J3221283). Tighten the
EGR bolts to 13 ft. lbs (17 N-m) of torque. Figure 2.

3.

Remove the EGR vacuum delay valve (C) and replace it with a straight vacuum connector (P/N J3220180). Figure 2.

4.

Disconnect vacuum hose from the distributor vacuum advance and plug the end of the vacuum hose. Connect a timing light to No. 1 spark plug.
Loosen the distributor holddown bolt (D). Figure 1.

5.

Connect a tachometer to the engine ignition.

6.

With the vehicle in park, set parking brake firmly and start engine. Turn A/C off. Allow engine to warm to normal operating temperature.

WARNING:

USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN THE ENGINE IS OPERATING. DO NOT STAND IN A DIRECT LINE WITH THE
FAN. DO NOT PUT HANDS NEAR PULLEYS, BELTS OR FAN. DO NOT WEAR LOOSE CLOTHING.

7.

Operate the engine at the specified idle RPM, as listed on the underhood Vehicle Emission Control Maintenance Information Label, and adjust the
engine timing to 8~ BTDC.

8.

Tighten the distributor holddown bolt and recheck the timing to verify correct setting.
