Neutral Safety Switch: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1.
Raise and support vehicle, then disconnect switch wire harness connector.
2.
Pry washer lock tabs up and remove switch attaching nut and washer.
3.
Remove switch adjusting bolt, then slide switch off manual valve shaft.

INSTALLATION
1.
Disconnect shift linkage rod from shift lever on left side of transmission, then rotate manual shift lever all the way rearward and back forward two
detent positions to Neutral.
2.
Install switch on manual valve shaft and install switch adjusting bolt finger tight, then install tabbed washer on manual valve shaft and install
switch attaching nut and torque to specifications. Do not bend washer lock tabs at this time.
3.
Verify that transmission is in Neutral, then rotate switch to align neutral standard line with vertical groove on manual valve shaft.
4.
Align switch standard line with groove or flat on manual valve shaft.
5.
Torque switch adjusting bolt to specifications. Bend at least two washer lock tabs over switch attaching nut to secure it.
6.
Connect shift linkage rod to shift lever on left side of case, connect switch wires and lower vehicle. To check switch operation, vehicle should start
only in Park or Neutral.
