Removal and Installation
Removal
1982-86 CJ & SCRAMBLER; 1984-87 CHEROKEE & WAGONEER; 1986-87 COMMANCHE & 1987 WRANGLER
1. Remove and discard 2/3 of brake fluid from largest master cylinder reservoir.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Remove front wheel and tire assemblies.
4. Press caliper piston to bottom of bore using suitable screwdriver or C-clamp.
5. Remove caliper mounting pins.
6. Lift caliper up and out of anchor plate and off rotor.
Installation
1980-83 CHEROKEE, TRUCK & WAGONEER; 1984-87 GRAND WAGONEER & TRUCK
1. Install caliper over rotor and in support shield and bracket.
2. Install caliper mounting bolts, ensuring bolts pass under inboard shoe retaining ears. Insert bolts until they enter bores in outboard shoe and caliper
mounting ears, then thread bolts into support bracket and torque to 35 ft. lbs.
3. Install new copper gaskets on brake line, then connect brake line to caliper and torque brake line bolt to 160 inch lbs.
4. Fill master cylinder to within 1/4 inch of reservoir rims, then depress brake pedal several times to seat brake shoes.
5. Clinch upper ears of outboard shoe until there is no radial clearance between shoe and caliper.
6. Install wheel and tire assemblies, then lower vehicle.
7. Check master cylinder fluid level and correct as necessary, then check operation of brake system.
