NOTE:
This notification applies only to the above vehicles equipped with a 2.8L diesel engine ("5" in the 8th VIN position) and Federal emission control
system (sales code NAA) built from December 16, 2005 through May 25, 2006 (MDH 121619 through 052523).
IMPORTANT:
A small number of 2005 and 2006 model year Jeep Liberty vehicles that have had TSB 18-008-06 or TSB 18-009-06 performed (reprogram TCM)
prior to July 14, 2006, according to warranty records, have been added to this recall.
IMPORTANT:
Some of the involved vehicles may be in dealer new vehicle inventory. Dealers should complete this recall service on these vehicles before retail
delivery. Dealers should also perform this recall on vehicles in for service. Involved vehicles can be determined by using the VIP inquiry process.
Subject
The Transmission Control Module (TCM) on about 4,000 vehicles was inadvertently programmed with software that may prevent proper communication
with some aftermarket diagnostic scan tools.
Repair
The TCM must be reprogrammed (flashed).
Parts Information
Each dealer to whom vehicles in the recall were assigned will receive enough Authorized Modifications Labels to service about 20% of those vehicles.
Additional labels may be ordered as needed.
Each vehicle requires application of the labels shown.
