Running Board Has Loose Fitting End Caps
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves securing the plastic end caps to the side running boards.
MODELS:
2002 (KJ) Liberty
NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO LIBERTY VEHICLES THAT HAVE MOPAR BRAND SIDE RUNNING BOARDS INSTALLED.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
One or more plastic end cap(s) do not fit securely to the metal side running board. The loose fit may cause an unsightly gap between the running board
and the end cap.
This condition may be due to a loose friction fit between the end cap outboard attachment clip (tab) and its adjoining attachment receiving groove on the
running board. Revised end caps have their outboard attachment clip further held in place by the addition of a speed nut and screw.
DIAGNOSIS:
1.
Inspect the two running boards for loose end caps.
2.
Determine if the end cap(s) in question are from one of the following Mopar running board kits: 82206190, 82206107, 82206108, 82206109,
82206110, 82206111, 82206112, 82206113, 82206114, 82206115, 82206116, 82206117.
3.
If an end cap is loose, and it was a component of one of the above running board kits, then inspect the back surface of the end cap where the end
cap abuts to the running board. Locate the outboard attachment clip on the vertical surface (outboard corner) of the end cap. The outboard
attachment clip is a small alignment tab that slides into a receiving groove on the end of the running board. The outboard attachment clip is held to
the running board groove by friction fit.
4.
If the outboard attachment clip on the end cap does not have the additional securing speed nut and screw, then perform the Repair Procedure to all
four end caps.

1.
Raise and support the vehicle.
2.
Refer to the instruction sheet included with the screw package for detailed assembly instructions.
3.
Lower the vehicle.
