Flip-Up Glass Latch Adjustment and Repair

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves procedures for the adjustment and repair of the flip-up glass latch.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The customer may complain of closure difficulties with the rear flip-up glass.

The conditions experienced may include: a high closure effort needed to latch (close) the glass or the flip-up glass will not close.

This condition may have been caused by the operation of the swing gate and flip-up glass when the vehicle IOD fuse was not in-circuit or when the
battery voltage was low. Refer to Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 23-011-01 for additional details regarding this condition.

DIAGNOSIS:

The flip-up glass closing efforts are considered reasonable if normal closing motion and effort is applied at the right lower corner of the glass directly
above the swing gate handle.

1.

Inspect the flip-up glass latch and striker for any damage.

2.

Inspect the hard rubber pad that attaches the striker to the flip-up glass for damage. If the pad is damaged it is not repairable, glass replacement is
required.

If the flip-up glass and latch components are mechanically sound, but the glass will not close or is difficult to close, then perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

LATCH ADJUSTMENT TO OBTAIN PROPER CLOSING EFFORTS:

1.

Verify that the flip-up glass is correctly centered in its opening. Refer to the 2002 Liberty Service Manual, page 23-116 for GAP and FLUSH
specifications. Adjust the flip-up glass as is necessary.
