Rear Cargo Carpet Fibers Come Loose From Backing
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves the replacement of the rear cargo carpet.

THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO LIBERTY VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO JUNE 11, 2001 (MDH 0611XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may complain that the rear cargo carpet fibers are pulling loose. The loose fibers are thin and string-like in appearance. Several of these
loose fibers may combine creating a clumped or mesh of loose fibers above the normal height of the carpet. This condition may become worse when the
customer vacuums the rear cargo carpet.
DIAGNOSIS:
If the above condition is present, perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
THIS REPAIR IS COMPATIBLE WITH DAIMLERCHRYSLER'S MOBILE SERVICE PROGRAM AND DOES NOT REQUIRE HOISTS OR
OTHER FULL SERVICE FACILITY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT.
1.
Remove the lower swing gate scuff plate.
2.
Open both rear passenger doors and fold down rear seat backs.
3.
Remove the eight rivets attaching the carpet and cargo hold-downs to the floor.
4.
Loosen bolt(s) at seat back hinge to floor to allow removal of carpet.
5.
Remove the carpet.
6.
Slide the new carpet under the trim panels.
7.
Install eight new steel rivets, p/n 06036484AA, securing the carpet and cargo hold-downs to the floor.
8.
Install the lower swing gate scuff plate.
9.
Tighten seat back hinge bolt to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.).
