Squeak-Like Sound From Parking Brake Cables
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves the installation of low friction sleeves to both parking brake cable housings.
MODELS:
2002 (KJ) Liberty
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
A squeak-like sound may occur when the vehicle rear suspension moves while the vehicle is driven. In some cases, the sound may transmit in a manner
that the sound may appear to be coming from under the front of the vehicle. The squeak-like sound may be the result of one or both parking brake cable
housings rubbing against one of the four cable guides (wire frame loops). The parking brake cable guides are located on the rear axle spring seats and on
the rear axle upper control arm (A-arm).
DIAGNOSIS:
Jounce the rear of the vehicle so that the rear suspension is exercised. If the squeak-like sound is present, then raise the vehicle and slide each parking
brake cable against each wire frame support. Perform the Repair Procedure, if the squeak-like sound results from sliding contact between the parking
brake cable housing and the respective cable guide.
PARTS REQUIRED
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1.
Make a cut along the entire length of each of the four (4) low friction sleeves. Each sleeve will be installed over the parking brake cable housing
and through the wire loop of each cable guide.
2.
Clean the surface of the parking brake cable at each cable guide.
