Wind Whistle Sound From Mopar Brushguard Or Mopar Front Air Deflector

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves the installation of a seal along the front edge of the hood and the adjustment of both hood stop bumpers.

MODELS:
2002 (KJ) Liberty

NOTE:

THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO LIBERTY VEHICLES THAT HAVE AN INSTALLED MOPAR ACCESSORY BRUSHGUARD OR A MOPAR
ACCESSORY FRONT AIR DEFLECTOR (BUG SHIELD). PART NUMBERS OF INVOLVED ACCESSORY KITS ARE: FRONT AIR
DEFLECTOR (82206000 ) AND BRUSHGUARD (82206096, 82206097, 82206098, 82206099, 82206100, 82206101, 82206102, 82206104,
82206461, 82206463).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The customer may complain of a wind whistle sound coming from the front of the vehicle.

This sound will often occur at speeds between 70 - 115 KMH (45 - 70 MPH).

DIAGNOSIS:

1.

Determine that the vehicle has a MOPAR accessory Brushguard or Front Air Deflector (Bug Shield) installed. If not, then this bulletin does not
apply.

2.

Determine if the Mopar accessory kit part number is listed in the above NOTE. If not, then this bulletin does not apply.

3.

Determine if the wind whistle sound is coming from the space (gap) between the leading edge of the hood and the front grill. This can be
determined by driving the vehicle with and then without tape placed across the entire horizontal gap between the leading edge of the hood and the
top of the grill.

4.

If it is determined that the wind whistle sound is caused by the space (gap) between the hood and grill, when either the Brushguard or the Front Air
Deflector is installed, perform the Repair Procedure.

PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1.

Install the hood seal along the top of the grill panel. Refer to the detailed procedures in the instruction sheet supplied with the kit.

NOTE: 

THE PLACEMENT OF THE HOOD SEAL IS CRITICAL. THE BULB SECTION OF THE HOOD SEAL MUST BE SLIGHTLY EXPOSED
WHEN THE HOOD IS CLOSED.

2.

Adjust the hood stop bumpers per the instruction sheet procedure.

NOTE: 

THE HOOD-TO-GRILL GAP HAS SOME INFLUENCE ON THE WIND WHISTLE SOUND, ESPECIALLY AT HIGHER VEHICLE SPEEDS.
ONCE THE HOOD SEAL HAS BEEN INSTALLED, FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTION SHEET PROCEDURE TO ADJUST HOOD HEIGHT.
THE HOOD STOP BUMPERS SHOULD BE ADJUSTED IN 1/2 TURN INCREMENTS (UP OR DOWN) UNTIL THE WIND WHISTLE
