Differential Axle Housing: Service and Repair
Rear Axle Service
1.
Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheels and brake drums.
2.
Support axle, then disconnect shock absorbers at lower mount.
3.
Disconnect brake hoses at frame rails and parking brake cables at equalizer.
4.
Scribe alignment marks, then disconnect propeller shaft from axle.
5.
Remove axle to spring U-bolts, then lower axle and remove from vehicle.
6.
Reverse procedure to install. Tighten U-bolt nuts to specifications. Bleed brake system.
