Wheel Speed Sensor: Service and Repair

WHEEL SENSORS
The wheel sensors have a polyethylene spacer strip attached to the sensor contact face. When installing a sensor, be very sure this spacer strip
actually touches the tone wheel. The strips are made in the exact thickness needed for correct sensor-to-tone wheel spacing (air gap). If the spacing
(air gap) is too great, the sensors will not transmit accurate speed signals to the Electronic Control Unit (ECU).
If the spacer strip is missing from an original, or not provided on a replacement sensor, the correct sensor- to-tone wheel air gap will have to
established with a brass feeler gauge. A brass feeler gauge must be used to avoid disrupting sensor polarity.
If the spacer strip is missing from a reusable sensor, set sensor-to-tone wheel air gap as follows:

Set front sensor air gap at 0.33 - 0.48 mm (0.013 - 0.019 inch)

Set rear sensor air gap at 0.76 - 0.91 mm (0.030 - 0.036 inch)
