Idle Speed/Throttle Actuator - Electronic: Description and Operation

Idle Speed Stepper Motor  (Manual Transmission)

This output device is mounted in the throttle body and changes the idle rpm according to signals it receives from the ECU.  In the throttle body is an air
bypass passage that provides air for the engine at idle (the throttle plate is closed at idle) and the idle speed stepper motor is located in this passage and
regulates the amount of air that can pass through it.  The ECU sends signals to the stepper motor, and these signals move the stepper motor pintle in or
out of the passage to adjust the idle speed for the particular engine condition.

Some of the input signals that the ECU uses to determine the idle speed stepper motor position are:

- Coolant Temperature Sensor
- Knock Sensor
- Throttle Position Sensor
- A/C Select/Request signal
