Wagoneer L6-242 4.0L VIN M FI (1988)
All involved vehicle owners known to Chrysler are being notified of the service requirement by first class mail. They are requested to schedule
appointments for the service with their dealers at the earliest possible date. A copy of the owner notification letter is attached.
Enclosed with each owner notification is an Owner Recall Notification Form. The involved vehicle and recall are identified on the form for owner or
dealer reference as needed.
Exhaust Manifold Inspection
1.
Start engine and allow it to idle. Raise hood and listen for an audible exhaust leak. If no leaks are heard, continue with Step B. If a leak is heard
proceed with Step C.
Replace Oxygen Sensor
1.
Raise vehicle on a hoist.
2.
Disconnect the oxygen sensor connector.
3.
Remove oxygen sensor.
4.
Install provided oxygen sensor. Torque to 35 ft.lbs. (48 N-m).
5.
Connect oxygen sensor connector.
6.
Lower vehicle.
7.
Install the Recall Completion Label:
a.
With a ball point pen, print your dealer code (5 digits) on the supplied Recall Completion Label.
b.
Peel the label from its backing and apply it near the Vehicle Emission Control Information Label located on the bulkhead.
8.
Complete and provide the owner with a Vehicle Emission Recall Proof of Correction form. Blank forms have been provided.
Exhaust Manifold and Oxygen Sensor Replacement
NOTE:
The intake and exhaust manifolds must be removed and installed together as the two manifolds use a common gasket at the cylinder head.
1.
With the ignition key in the OFF position, disconnect the battery negative cable.
2.
Remove air cleaner inlet hose from throttle plate assembly.
3.
Remove air cleaner assembly.
