DEALER SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS
CALIFORNIA EMISSIONS RECALL # 316T --
NOx EMISSIONS AND EXHAUST MANIFOLD

This service requirement applies only to 1988 Model Year Jeep Comanche (MJ-Body)

Cherokee and Wagoneer (XJ-Body) vehicles equipped with a 4.0L engine and California emission control system.

This recall is subject to the new State of California Registration Renewal/Emission Recall Enforcement Program implemented in 1992.  Since
involved vehicles must have the recall service completed before registration renewal, dealers should provide prompt service to prevent possible
registration delays.

Be sure to provide a Vehicle Emission Recall Proof of Correction Form to each owner upon completion of the recall service, for use as proof in
renewal of the vehicle registration.  Blank Proof of Correction forms (Form No. 81-016-1053) have been supplied separately to all California
dealers by Compak Mail for this purpose.

As an additional service aid, a videotape demonstrating the service procedure is being distributed separately by first class mail to each California
Jeep/Eagle dealer at the same time that this dealer recall notification letter is mailed.

Non-California Dealers will receive copies of this dealer recall notification letter by Compak Mail.  Some involved vehicles may have been
relocated outside California, and the instructions will allow dealers to perform this service on such vehicles upon request.  Non-California dealers
must order the necessary parts as needed.
