Lightly oil inside lip of new seal.

Install new seal (16) onto preliminary installer 6228-1. Be sure that the seal lip has not pulled up onto the edge of the installer.

Slide adapter J-34659-4 and gauging sleeve 6228-2 over rod J-34659-3. Position assembly in axle tube.

Through vacuum motor access hole, thread preliminary installer 6228-1 onto end of rod J-34659-3 with seal facing steering knuckle.
NOTE:
PRELIMINARY INSTALLER 6228-1 ONLY INSTALLS THE SEAL HALFWAY. PRELIMINARY INSTALLER 6228-1
MUST BE SCREWED TIGHTLY ONTO ROD J- 34659-3 FOR CORRECT SEAL INSTALLATION.
27.
With open-end wrench, hold rod J-34659-3 in place and tighten nut (13) until it stops.

Loosen nut.

Insert a drift punch into hole (17) in edge of preliminary installer 6228-1. Hold punch and unscrew rod J-34659-3. Leave gauging sleeve 6228-2
