SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Some 1987-1988 Cherokee, Wagoneer and Comanche vehicles may experience a gear rattle/sizzle noise from the transmission/transfer case area that is
noticeable in the passenger compartment.
DIAGNOSIS
Check transmission and transfer case fluids for proper levels. Verify that transmission and transfer case components are functioning properly. With the
noise condition confirmed, continue with the following procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED
1 - Insulator
P/N 53005395
REPAIR PROCEDURE
This repair procedure installs insulator kit, P/N 53005395.
1.
Remove the shift knob and the outer boot/bezel from the shift lever.
2.
Carefully inspect the inner shift boot for tears, cracks, or rips. Replace the inner shift boot as required.
3.
Install the insulator (P/N 53005395) by pushing it down over the top of the shift lever. Push the insulator down and position it so that the inner
shift boot is completely covered and the shift pattern is not obstructed.
4.
Install the outer boot/bezel and the shift knob.
