TRAILER HITCH COMPONENTS

Inspection Procedure

1.

Inspect the trailer hitch components.

^

If the vehicle has a towing tube (see illustration), return the vehicle to stock or to the owner.

^

If the towing tube is missing, proceed to the Towing Tube Installation procedure.

Towing Tube Installation

1.

Remove the rear bumper.

2.

Remove the draw bar from the bumper.

3.

Attach the towing tube and the draw bar to the bumper with bolt K and nuts L (see illustration).

4.

Install the nut plates. Slide the plates through the rear sill openings and secure each plate with one bolt J (see illustration).

NOTE:

Install bolt J in the forward hole of each nut plate.

5.

Position the rear bumper/towing tube assembly on the vehicle and loosely install attaching bolts D, H, lock washers F, and nuts G (see illustration).

NOTE:

Be sure bolts H go through the towing tube, rear sill and into the nut plates.

6.

Tighten the towing tube attaching bolts/nuts to the following torque values.

Nuts L to 85 N-m (63 ft-lbs) torque.

^

Bolts J to 70 N-m (52 ft-lbs) torque.

^

Bolts H to 50 N-m (37 ft-lbs) torque.

^

Nuts G to 85 N-m (63 ft-lbs)) torque.
