Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair
1.
On 6-243 engines, disconnect stator electrical connector from distributor.
2.
On all engines, remove distributor and position aside.
3.
Mark position of distributor rotor to distributor housing and position of distributor housing to engine block.
4.
Remove distributor hold down clamp, then lift distributor from engine block.
5.
If engine was not disturbed while distributor was removed, reverse procedure to install. When distributor is installed on engine, alignment marks
made during removal should be aligned. Torque distributor hold down bolt to 8 to 10 ft. lbs.
6.
If engine was disturbed while distributor was removed, proceed as follows:
a. Rotate engine until No. 1 cylinder is at TDC compression stroke.
b. Using a flat blade screwdriver, position oil pump gear so that slot is slightly past the 3 o'clock position.
c. Position distributor rotor at the 5 o'clock and install distributor on engine block.
d. When distributor is fully engaged with oil pump gear, rotor should be at the 6 o'clock position.
e. Align distributor housing to engine block marks made during removal, then install distributor hold down clamp and torque bolt to 8 to 10 ft.
